Apple Crumble
Soft, spiced baked apples under a crisp, buttery crumble topping, a warming classic best served with custard or cream.

Ingredients

- apples, peeled and chopped2
- brown sugar1 tbsp
- ground cinnamon1/2 tsp
- water1 tbsp
- plain flour75 g
- butter, cold and cubed50 g
- brown sugar (for topping)30 g
- rolled oats20 g

Preheat the oven to 180°C (fan 160°C).

Put the chopped apples in a small baking dish with the brown sugar, cinnamon and water. Toss well to coat.

In a bowl, rub the cold butter into the flour using your fingertips until the mixture looks like breadcrumbs, this is easier if the butter stays cold, so work quickly.

Stir in the brown sugar and oats until well combined.

Scatter the crumble mixture evenly over the apples, pressing down very lightly.

Bake for 30 to 35 minutes, until the apples are soft when pierced with a knife and the topping is golden brown.

Leave to cool for a few minutes before serving warm, ideally with custard or cream.
